comfy & cozy...

we got a new mattress set this weekend! very exciting, i know. maybe THAT is when you know you're a grown-up... when you're completely psyched about your new mattress. i'm finally getting a decent night's sleep! no pictures... do you really care? anyway, we had our old one for 10 years so it was time. our old set is in the guest room on the floor now. in a couple years when we get new bedroom furniture, we'll throw the really old mattress away, upgrade ours to a king, and move all our old bedroom furniture and mattress to the guest room. can't wait. meanwhile, those who frequent our home now have a real bed to sleep on instead of the air mattress. yay, right?

and while we were out we also got new living room furniture!

i just love it! the old couch is in the front game room, so now we have someplace to sit when we play guitar hero. :) i tried to cram the love seat in up there too... didn't fit. so justin's brother's gonna take it.

another note: we're slowly making the transition over to all browns in the kitchen. i have a box of some sunflower (and green) stuff if anyone's interested (if anyone even still has that decor!)... curtains, clock, rug, towels, and i don't know what else. and i'll have some blue stuff too, eventually... towels, dishes, flatware, plastic utensils, other kitchen stuff, etc.

getaway...

so here's how our getaway is going so far...

we left the house around 8:30am, ran a couple errands, went to IHOP for breakfast, then headed for galveston island. went straight for "the strand". picked up a hat, a necklace, and earrings. :) my plan was to take jay to the peanutbutter warehouse because he loves peanutbutter but hasn't been able to find one he likes since they took peter pan (honey roast) off the shelves... they do still make some peanutbutter, but mainly it's an antique store now. :/ left the strand and got to moody gardens around 12:30 or so... to see the "titanic exhibition"! it was pretty neat. we stopped at the "dippin dots" ice cream store on the seawall (i love that place) before heading to our next stop... a bed & breakfast (our first time)! :) the place has a history as it was here during and survived the storm of 1900. we checked in around 3:30pm, then left around 4:30pm to head to landry's on the seawall for dinner. got back to the b&b around 6:30pm, and here we've sat ever since. it's absolutely wonderful here and the innkeepers are so friendly! we're only staying the one night, but so far i just love it. i don't know that i'll ever want to stay in a hotel again! some pics below...

uh, the bed...
sitting area, and sofa folds out to queen bed...
jacuzzi tub with shower...
sitting area, dinette back by the entrance...
suite is detached from the main house, so we have our own private patio...

off i go! next stop: breakfast in the dining room of the main house at 9am...

tanner's turning tricks...

i've taught him commands/words: come, sit, lay, stay, pillow, house, grass, garage, outside, okay, up, cookie, bring it here, drop it, no sir, and good boy. he knows hand commands for a few of those too! but this is the only real "trick" i've taught him... just video, no audio...

note: i posted this to myspace some time ago, so you may have seen it already.

brain purge...

• girls night. every 2nd friday of the month, at whoever's house we decide on. this month it happens to be tomorrow night, at my place. jamie's the only one coming this time as the other(s) have alot on their plates right now. we'll just make it movie night... and since i'll also have my niece addison, it'll be pass the baby around night (she LOVES to be held). and jamie's bringing pretzel time pretzels! i've been looking forward to this all week! i know that's a little sad, but it's not like i have a life or anything so gimme a friggin break, huh? and it's not THAT sad if you think of how difficult it can be for one to actually get to the pretzel time... it's in a downtown mall that closes around 5pm, so you can really only get to it if you work downtown... which jamie just so happens to do! so maybe i'm a little less pathetic than you first thought... no? hm.

• my newest project. i use foul language too often. i find myself wondering how in the world i got into this bad habit. driving in houston has probably had some impact. when the nieces and nephews are around i try to watch my language (and i'm mostly successful). but i can't tell you how many times i've blurted out some of the foulest four-letter words (with some adjectives thrown in for character) with my nephew in the truck, because he was being so quiet that i momentarily forgot he was there! of course as soon as the words leave my mouth i remember he's sitting back there and start to ramble on about ANYTHING else so just MAYBE he won't contemplate (and later repeat) those words. i seem to do better in public, it's at home (and in the car, which means i'm talking to myself) where it's worst. when i inject one of those words into ordinary conversation, i've asked hubby to call me on it. so i guess lately i've been (figuratively) washing my mouth out with soap. don't misunderstand me... i know that a well-placed expletive can do wonders for communication. but i do NOT want to be talking that way in front my hypothetical children. and, well, it's just unattractive on me... so if it's something i can change, and still feel like i'm being ME, then i'm gonna do it.

• i have a surprise planned for hubby and i for the weekend after valentine's day. we're taking friday off (2/15) and we're putting our phones on silent (not vibrate)... i know, it's risky. it's not really for valentine's day, per se... just felt like a good time to do said surprise. maybe we can make this a valentine's tradition or something. scrap the flowers and chocolates and all that crap. each year, around valentine's day, let's take turns planning some outting or something (this year i planned it, next year he can plan it). i'll let you know how it goes later. although the surprise is just killing me... i can't keep surprises!

• monster energy drinks are my new favs... redbull was too expensive.

• yeah i've got nothing else, but i'd already typed the bullet point and didn't wanna delete it.

mary tagged me...

and i thought she was my friend. ;)

Here's how you play: Once you've been tagged you have to write a blog with 10 weird, random, facts, habits or goals about yourself , at the end choose 10 people to be tagged, list their names and why you tagged them. Don't forget to leave them a comment saying '(You're It!) and to go read your blog. You can not tag the person that tagged you so since you can't tag me back let me know when you are done so that I can go read YOUR blog answers.

1. i am addicted to energy drinks.

home sweet home...

this past weekend sarah, will, and mom d came to stay with us. overall, a great weekend!

saturday i cooked breakfast (germuffins), then sarah and i treated mom d to a mani/pedi at the salon... mom d had never had a pedicure, so that was fun! jay and will went to the auto show at reliant. then we all (uh, by all, i mean the girls) went shopping! aren't these:

the most spectacular (casual) shoes you've ever seen? they're actually tan, but it's hard to tell from the pic. i am just in love with them! mom d was most amazed at how freakish sarah and i can get over our shoes... she's so funny. anyway, we met the guys back at the house around dinner time and mom d cooked an awesome meat loaf. (remember to send me that recipe, mom!) we stayed up late... talking, watching movies, will and i played guitar hero forever, and on and on.

sunday sarah made blueberry muffins for breakfast. then we sat around and did the same stuff as the night before, until the superbowl started. we watched the game and played the superbowl games sarah had made. i had so much fun! the game was the best superbowl i remember seeing, and the giants won! (mom d was the only one in the house cheering on the pats... haha sucka!)

monday i made milkshakes for breakfast... yes, milkshakes. then we watched a couple of movies. they left to head back to tyler around 1:30 pm. i'm so glad we got to spend some quality time with the fam this weekend. and, as always, i miss my baby bro like mad everytime he leaves. :(
